friday, 25 january 2013 snow white and the seven dwarfs well hello again sweetpeas and how are you today? it is panto time in the lovely village and this year it has a new cast member - me! i can hardly believe it myself but let me explain how i got here... the very beautiful mini villager number 2 likes to do some drama at the local theatre and last year she was in a play of the wizard of oz, which was lovely. when the panto came around i thought i would do it with her as a chance for some lovely mummy - daughter bonding. i had been a member of a youth theatre when i was younger (i was never any good but it was fun). so bravely i auditioned and was offered a part. sadly they then decided that mini villager was too young this year. she insisted that she wanted me to go ahead and do it anyway. so that is how i found myself performing for an invited audience last night. now i confess, to having a terrible costume which makes me look like a barrel, wearing a silly, noisy, uncomfortable nose and i am the only adult in amongst six children - have you guessed who i am yet? - but i am loving it! so although i may not have a glamorous costume (like the gorgeous mrs p) or have a big part but i hope the audience comes along and has as much fun as we did rehearsing it. in a very busy stressful time, it has been my savour and i will be sad when it is all over. although i do have to get over performing in front of people who know me first... get ready with your cheers and shouts, a lot of work has gone into this and a bit of fun is sometimes all you need! i hope to see you in the audience somewhere... mrs aka grumbly the dwarf x posted by at 07:43 21 comments: links to this post email this blogthis! share to twitter share to facebook share to pinterest wednesday, 16 january 2013 mrs forgetful hello my lovelies, don't you just hate it when you realise at the last moment that you have totally forgotten to do something really important (surely mrs never forgets anything)? hmm, well of course i do - regularly as it happens! just today after a morning at work, an afternoon on a course 20 miles away, rushing back to collect mini villager number 2 from a club quickly so that i could go and collect mini villagers number 1, 3 and 4 from a friend who had kindly collected them from school for me while i was on my course, i then rushed them home in time to feed them quickly to go out for the cubs drop off collecting an additional 2 children and dropping them off with mini villager number 2, taking numbers 1, 3 and 4 home to bed - phew, are you following me? so imagine me briefly at home, where i rushed in put on some rice for supper - stoically before i went to powder my nose - and breathe (momentarily). feeling safe in the knowledge that my plan for supper - instigated the night before by removing some chicken from the freezer and placing out to defrost - was a good one and the wheels set in motion, i did manage a quick breath... at this point, feeling virtuous, i denied myself the usual kettle putting on in favour of talking to the mini villagers about their day (normally done in tandem) while continuing my supper preparation. having reached the 'point of no return' on the planned supper i causally strolled to collect the chicken. gah!! in my super organised mind, i had failed totally to actually take it out, i had just planned to do so. hmm, quick think, brief panic and explanation to the children of their choices now that their favourite supper was no longer an option... luckily todays rescue was a reasonable one but i have to confess that in the past we have had some interesting suppers, baked beans and rice for anyone? what do you use as an emergency meal? mrs x posted by at 17:59 40 comments: links to this post email this blogthis! share to twitter share to facebook share to pinterest saturday, 5 january 2013 twelfth night hello again gorgeous people, it is that time of year again - time to take down the christmas decorations. i always feel a sense of sadness at this stage. i know it is nice to have back a bit of space and clean up but it just seems to leave a hole in the rooms somehow, and it takes me a good few weeks to feel my house looks homely again (and no, i don't mean just messy!). i'll admit that our tree does not go up until the middle (ish) weekend in december, although recently i have managed it as early as the 16th - my husbands family waited until christmas eve, i have not yet been that late... i know lots of people put their trees up as early as possible and then take them down almost straight after christmas but to us here at village towers, we wait until twelvth night as early tradition dictates. when i was a mini villager we would burn the christmas tree and eat our chocolate decoration while watching the tree burn in the garden. i am trying this with the mini villagers this year - but it may take a while longer as we can't burn the whole tree in one go in our fireplace - how long can one chocolate decoration last... have a lovely evening mrs x posted by at 15:54 105 comments: links to this post email this blogthis! share to twitter share to facebook share to pinterest friday, 4 january 2013 happy new year! hello my lovelies and how are you all? i have to say that 2012 was the fastest year i think i can remember - mind you it was a somewhat busy year here at village towers. i hardly know where to being with all the changes at this end. i do hope your year was a more restful one than mine (i assure you that won't have been hard...). currently 2013 is looking as busy if not worse! so here i shall take a moment out to raise my lovely new mug (mrs b of course) and wish you a very happy new year. may it be exactly what you wished for. much love mrs x posted by at 12:41 18 comments: links to this post email this blogthis! share to twitter share to facebook share to pinterest saturday, 5 may 2012 decisions, decisions… hello my lovelies. wow time has whizzed by hasn’t it! mrs has been very busy of late -how does that always happen? mr village husband says that i like being so busy that i don’t have time to sit down (he is right!), although sometimes the idea of a nice holiday somewhere with just me, a book, a beach, and a very large cocktail does seem nice… anyway, back down to reality. i do have some good news to share. finally mrs is on the lookout for a new car. i have had the last car for nearly five years now and i do love it (or at least i did). however, now its long list of faults is getting me down. how many people would drive a car with the following faults? the driver foot well has a puddle when it has rained (that is no exaggeration i assure you – the mini villagers will tell you that on many occasions i have used a cup to empty the water so that my shoes don’t get soaking wet). it was interesting in the winter when the puddle turned to ice… the car can only be opened and closed by the key in the boot. one window will not open at all. one door will not open at all. one window only opens a little (admittedly this was due to my introduction to the garden wall) the stereo only comes out of one speaker – imagine this with four mini villagers in the back desperate to listen to something. one gets blasted and the others still can’t hear it. the sun roof no longer works – due to the leak. the windscreen is permanently condensed on the inside and you therefore have to de-ice both inside and out. doesn’t that sound like a lovely car? when we recently broke down the aa man suggested that this was a car for people with lots of dogs not with lots of children… so i have taken the hint and now mr village husband and i are on the hunt for a new one – this could take some time as we just can’t decide. in the meantime would anyone like to buy a well loved people carrier? didn’t think so… mrs x posted by at 09:16 22 comments: links to this post email this blogthis! share to twitter share to facebook share to pinterest tuesday, 13 march 2012 whoops! hello my lovel
